The Department of Education (ED) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program provides critical, early-stage research and development funding in the form of contracts and grants for educational and assistive technologies which have strong commercial potential. Two offices in the ED have SBIR Programs, including the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) and the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS)/ National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR). Each year, the ED seeks SBIR applications that address research topics ranging from education technology products used by students or teachers, or assistive technologies to assist individuals with disabilities. ED’s IES program also has a Fast Track option that will also applicants to propose both Phase I and II activities in a single proposal.<?xml:namespace prefix = o />

This webinar will address key content to include in SBIR proposal applications, including the Fast Track option and the importance of including strong letters of endorsement. Also to be discussed is the review process used by ED SBIR. The webinar will address common issues that present challenges for new SBIR applicants and offer guidance regarding how to plan ahead in order to ensure successful completion of major steps within the application process.

The webinar will be led by Dr. Edward Metz, SBIR Program Manager for the ED’s IES office. Following a 30-minute presentation, Dr. Metz will engage with webinar participants in a 30 minute question and answer session.
