Two small business firms have won national industry awards for their education technology learning games developed with funding from the Institute of Education Sciences' SBIR program. On June 18, 2013, Filament Games received an award at the Games for Change conference, which brings together industry leaders whose companies focus on games that serve as tools in humanitarian and educational efforts. Filament's "Reach For The Sun" game won the award for "Best Gameplay." In the game, middle and high school students are challenged to "do" photosynthesis by growing a sunflower from seed to full flowering plant before winter arrives. The 15th Annual NIH Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Conference will be held October 28 – 30, 2013 at the Sioux Falls Convention Center, 1101 N West Ave, Sioux Falls, South Dakota 57104.  Registration has now opened.
