2015 TIBBETTS AWARD NOMINATIONS PERIOD EXTENDED TO APRIL 15, 2015

The Tibbetts Awards are presented to those small businesses and individuals judged to exemplify the best in the SBIR or STTR programs. The award is named for Roland Tibbetts, acknowledged as the father of the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program, and is presented to companies, supporting organizations, and individuals which have leveraged the SBIR/STTR investment, or helped others do so, in a way that has generated measurable value to their firm or the nation.   

All Tibbetts Award winners will be selected by the SBA based on the recommendations of a panel of judges. There is no monetary value to the Tibbetts Award. All awardees are invited to Washington DC at their own expense to attend the Tibbetts Awards ceremony the week of 15 June in Washington D.C..

HOW TO SUBMIT A NOMINATION

Nominations will be accepted starting February 18, 2015. The nomination period will close on April 15, 2015 at 11:59 PM EDT. Anyone can nominate a business, supporting organization and/or individual for a Tibbetts Award – including self-nominations.  Please note however, that any individual or small business that has received a Tibbetts Award in the last three years (2012, 2013, or 2014) is not eligible for nomination in 2015.

For the first time, nominations may be in either written electronic PDF format, or by video.  Please give your PDF file a unique name that helps identify you (eg abc company.pdf). 

Those making video nominations must still submit an electronic written PDF cover page which includes access information for the video.  It is preferred that the videos be set up and linked to You Tube.  Videos must be limited to 5 minutes.

Nominations must be emailed to nominations@tibbettsawards.org no later than April 15, 2015 at 11:59 PM EDT.  You will receive a notification of receipt within 2 business days. 

Nominations packages are limited to written answers and/or a 5 minute video testimonial addressing the following sections:

The criteria for evaluating companies who have received SBIR or STTR awards are:

Technical Innovation– How has the technical innovation advanced national priorities in R&D, benefited the federal government or private citizens? (250 words or less)

Business Impact- Explain how your company has grown successfully? (e.g. job creation and retention, revenue growth, successful acquisition and/or financial exit) (250 words or less)

Broader Social and Economic Benefit–  How has your company encouraged STEM, women and minority participation in R&D, supported regional economic development, and/or created connections to local universities? (250 words or less)

 

The criteria for evaluating individuals or supporting organizations are:

Unique, Long-Term Service– Explain how you have provided advice & guidance to the SBIR program recipients, served in various capacities to the program and its awardees, provided leadership and/or support to the program and participating agencies (250 words or less).

Created and/or Initiated New Programs– Explain how you have created new programs to enhance commercialization prospects for awardees, innovation of services provided to awardees, enhanced program to meet its statutory goals, established programs beyond SBIR funding (250 words or less)

Advocacy of SBIR– Explain how you have advocated policies supportive of the program, broadened the applicant base of the program, reached out to new audiences to assist in the success of SBIR awardees (250 words or less)

TIBBETTS AWARD SELECTION PROCESS

All Award winners will be selected by the SBA based on the recommendations of a panel of judges.  The winners will be invited to an Awards Program (Washington, DC) in June 2015, the ceremony will be held in concert with the annual SBIR National Conference at the National Harbor.

*Note: All award winners wishing to participate in the June 2015 event will be responsible for their own travel and accommodation expenses.

2015 SBIR HALL OF FAME AWARD NOMINATIONS PERIOD EXTENDED TO APRIL 15, 2015

 

The prestigious SBIR Hall of Fame, started in 2011, recognizes previous SBIR awardees with a long period of extraordinary success in research, innovation, and commercialization within the SBIR program.

The SBIR Hall of Fame awards will be made to firms with a long period of extraordinary success of research, innovation, and commercialization within the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs.

HALL OF FAME ELIGIBILITY

For the SBIR Hall of Fame, nominees must be previous SBIR or STTR awardees that have contributed significantly to the program’s goals over a period of time through their work.

Any individual who owns and operates or who bears principal responsibility for operating a business that received an SBIR Phase I and II award or STTR award may be nominated. Partners who jointly own and operate a business may be nominated as a “team,” so long as the number of individuals in the team nomination does not exceed four. Nominees may have previously received a Tibbetts Award, although receipt of a Tibbetts Award is not required. Nominees must also be residents of the United States or its territories and will be subject to background checks. A company may not apply for both a Tibbetts and Hall of Fame award in the same year.

Degree of Impact– Has your company experienced a large initial price offering event, created of a significant number of new jobs, and/or acquired by a larger firm? (250 words or less)

Longevity– Explain the basic timeline history of your company’s inception and growth of impact post SBIR/STTR financing. (250 words or less)
