NIH Education Tech SBIR successes
‡ Backyard Brains, Inc. Develops low cost neuroscience equipment/educational tools for middle school/high school students. Backyard Brains collaborates with University High School in Ferndale, Michigan to evaluate their prototypes before launching them into the community. The company¶s goal is for all students to have the opportunity to become fascinated with neuroscience and they are developing low cost, yet interactive ways to make kids excited. Their products are spreading across the US. ‡ Morphonix, Inc. Develops neuroscience programs designed to teach children about the brain, through songs, interactive stories and games. Three programs have been released to date: Journey into the Brain (for ages 7-11), Neuromatrix (for ages 11-14), and Everybody has a Brain (for ages 4-6), and are sold world-wide. The programs have received many awards including: All Star Rating, Children¶s Software Review; Best of Show, Best of the Northbay Awards; National Parenting Publications Gold Award; Parent¶s Choice Award, etc.

NIH Education Tech SBIR successes
‡ Science Take-Out Science Take-Out kits are pre-packaged, hands-on science activities covering numerous topics in high school biology and middle school life sciences. Each Science Take-Out kit contains all the materials and instructions needed to complete the laboratory activity. Equipment is not needed, and the only items a teacher needs to provide are safety goggles and water (for some kits). Although Science Take-Out kits were originally designed for students who do not have access to laboratory facilities ± such as students in alternative education programs and home-schooled students - most teachers order the kits for use in standard classrooms. Teachers and school administrators alike appreciate that the kits align with national and state science education standards and that each kit is extensively field tested in numerous classrooms to insure that it is both ³student friendly´ and ³teacher friendly.´

Johnson, Benny Artificial Intelligence Tutoring and Assessment for Teacher Development. Provided over 500,000 online tutoring sessions and grown by more than 400% over the previous two years. Award No. 0956809: Modular Robotics LLC Schweikardt, Eric. Learning About Complexity through Programming Modular Robots. Success in marketing the product to consumers and to museums. Their robots have even been displayed in several art museums. Award No. 1127398: AgentSheets - Repenning, Alexander. A Collective Programming Environment for the Social Exploration of Computational Thinking through Games. Their product has reached about 250,000 users nationally and has included entire school districts.
