SBIR/STTR 101: Introduction and Overview

Cost: $50 for Michigan residents; $100 all others

This half-day class helps small, technology entrepreneurs and businesses assess their eligibility to receive R&D funding through the government’s Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs. Through these programs, 11 federal agencies make over $2 billion in high-risk, non-dilutive capital available to innovative small companies annually.

Attendees will learn SBIR/STTR program basics, including: program purpose, eligibility, sources of funding and tools for proposal development. It is designed to provide enough information for attendees to determine if they would like to seriously pursue a grant or contract proposal.  

Refund Policy:  Refunds can be made up until 48 hrs. prior to training. No refunds after that time.

Speaker:  Michael Kurek, PhD, Partner,BBC Entrepreneurial Training & Consulting (BBCetc)

Speaker Information: Michael Kurek has held senior management positions in marketing, sales and business development for a number of life science companies—two of which completed successful initial public stock offerings on the NASDAQ exchange. He was also Vice President of Business Development for the Michigan Center for High Technology, where he was responsible for the business incubator program that served over 50 start-up technology companies. Over his 30-year career, Michael has demonstrated success on an international scale in defining new product opportunities, developing sales and marketing strategies, and recruiting and managing teams to deliver growth. He holds a PhD in Genetics from Florida State University and an M.B.A. from Boston University. He joined BBC in 2001 as a Principal Consultant.
