Title:
High Precision, Airborne Carbon Dioxide Analyzers
Agency:
DOE
Contract:
DE-FG03-02ER83369
Award Amount:
$98,288.00
Abstract:
70747 Instrumentation is needed to quantify all significant sources and sinks of man-made carbon dioxide. This information would in turn enable accurate predictions of the impact of carbon dioxide on the Earth¿s climate. This project will adapt an existing carbon dioxide analyzer to airborne platforms, leading to a commercially viable instrument capable of quantifying atmospheric carbon dioxide with high precision. It will have no sensitivity to motion (no moving parts), provide measurements in dry mole fraction, and be low cost. Phase I will: (1) modify the existing analyzer to work on a specific airborne platform, (2) incorporate it into a full detection system, and (3) make vertical profile measurements of atmospheric carbon dioxide. Commercial Applications and Other Benefits as described by the awardee: The modified analyzer should provide high precision measurements of carbon dioxide from all terrestrial platforms, air, sea and ground.
