Unambiguous threat signal identification has become progressively more difficult due to the proliferation of high duty cycle radar signals and the attendant time overlap of transmission at the target platform. Present systems in the field employing frequency and angle- of-arrival channelization to aid in the threat identification can handle one, and possibly two, simultaneous signals. This Phase I proposal addresses the development of a practical frequency/angle-of- arrival channelizer which can process a large number of multiple simultaneous signals while maintaining high unambiguity in identification. The proposed approach is based on a two-dimensional acousto-optical (AO) processing technique using components with superior performance developed over the course of multi-phase Channelized Direction Finder program. During Phase I, Aurora Associates will establish a practical AO-based direction finder (DF) channelizer architecture and provide a "road map" for the development and testing of key system components.
