Surf Zone and Craft Landing Zone Obstacle Clearance

Wilfred Baker Engineering, Inc., Proposes to develop an explosive system to clear a wide variety of obstacles from the surf zone and craft landing zone during an amphibious assault. The proposed approach will be suitable for clearance of individual obstacles or systematic clearance of a lane. The approach can be implemented in the near term to clear individual obstacles, and can be further developed to meet long-term needs for rapid lane clearance. The Phase I study will employ a combined analytical/experimental approach to assess concept feasibility. Both clearance and deployment concepts will be addressed with careful consideration of operational constraints. A plan will be formulated for optimization of the clearance concept and finalization of deployment options during Phase II.
