Target Discrimination for Subsurface Ordance Characterization

The Cesium vapor magnotometer and ground-penetrating radar senors currently used to identify subsurface Unexploded Ordnance locations also respond to underground clutter and anomalies. The ultimate objective of this project is to develop a classifier or discriminator that has the potential of providing significantly improved performance on target discrimination for subsurface ordnance. This classifier/discriminator will be a powerful general purpose software product that can be run in computers installed in military aircraft or commercial utility vehicles. The software will be able to be applied to other subsurface identification problems, such as accurately locating underground utility lines (water, gas, power, telecommunications, sewer, etc.). The Phase I effort will focus on developing and evaluating various competing algorithms and the Phase II classifier/discriminator software product.
