Abstract:
We propose to develop an object-oriented toolbox for modeling, control design and analysis of distributed parameter systems based on PDESolve, our commercially available PDE computing sybstrate. The toolbox will be an open environment containing all the components required a PDE control problem, including the effect of sensors and actuators. With the toolbox, the user will be able to design and access PDE controllers in an efficient, flexible and user-friendly manner. The toolbox will be able to solve real-world engineering problems of interest to the Air Force, other government agencies, and commercial industry. The toolbox will be demonstrated on a problem modeled after a JSF design challenge: to design a controller for an aeroservoelastic wing section to achieve perscribed camber and twist. The toolbox will reduce by one to two orders of magnitude the time required for designing controllers for PDE distributed systems. It will contain stand-alone modules for standard control design methodologies as well as interfaces to third-party control design software such as MATLAB and Matrix X. In Phase I, we will develop key components of the functionality of the toolbox and demonstrate it on control design of a model fluid-structure interaction problem.
