Abstract:
The objective of this project is to develop a new class of antennas -- an integrated phased array antenna (IPHAR). The novel antenna system is of the travelling wave type, it has a planar multilayer design and can be fabricated with the use of printed circuit block (PCR) technology. The multilayer antenna design consists of two anisotropic electrically controlled layers, and an active layer with low-noise HEMT, HBT transistor amplifiers (receiving or with powerful amplifiers (transmitting) on a dielectric or ceramic substrate with patch radiating and coupling elements above the upper anisotropic layer. The proposed new concept combines many different functions in one unit: waveguiding, electromagnetic power distribution, phase-shifting, radiation. For specific antenna applications, the new design possesses the capability of multibeam and adaptive pattern nulling operation and may be successfully applied in mobile radio communications, as well as in microwave and millimeterwave frequency bands.
