Abstract
PROCESS STABILITY AND PERFORMANCE VARIABILITY HAS BEEN A MAJOR OBSTACLE IN THE WIDESPREAD COMMERCIALIZATION OF METHANE PRODUCTION OF ANAEROBIC DIGESTION. THIS PROCESS IS DEPENDENT THERE HAS BEEN A LACK OF ON-LINE MONITORING DEVICES WHICH ACCURATELY ASSESS THE ACTIVITY OF THIS POPULATION. THE EFFORT DESCRIBED IN THIS PROPOSAL IS DESIGNED TO DETERMINE WHETHER IN-SITU MEASUREMENT OF INTRACELLULAR NADH AND FACTOR 420 WILL PROVIDE A REAL-TIME MEANS OF MONITORING THE STATE OF ANACROBIC DIGESTER MICROBIAL ACTIVITY AND WHETHER THESE MEASUREMENTS CAN BE USED TO PREDICT PROCESS INSTABILITY OR SHIFTS IN PERFORMANCE.
