Abstract:

The observed antigenic cross-reactivity between the Borrelia species that causes Lyme disease and Bthat causes Relapsing Fever is one of the problems in confirming cases of Lyme disease in areas endeinfections. As thedemand for the development of Lyme disease diagnostic procedures increases, it isbe able to discriminate between the related Borrelia species. Serological assays for relapsing feverint he past have lacked sensitivity and specificity. the objective of this phase I project is to idesuitable for rapid diagnostic testing that would be both sensitive and specific. of the relapsing fehermsii, the serological and gene assays for relapsing fever will be designed to include antigens anboth B. hermsii and B. turicatae with the sensitivity to distinguish a case of relapsing fever form
