DOD / ARMY
The Army needs a new-generation optical network architecture and associated technologies, to support its Future Combat System and Tactical Network applications. Broadata Communications, Inc. (BCI) has, in Phase I, investigated an innovative StarWebTMOptical Network technology for ultra-high-bandwidth (far beyond gigabit per second), multi-protocol, multi-physical-media data distribution services over existing legacy (such as circuit switching for voice) and emerging (such as packet/frame switching forIP/Ethernet) data communication systems. The StarWebTM is a unified, low cost, physical optical network infrastructure that is specifically designed to address unlimited, any-to-any, data communication connectivity services in one single integratednetwork. It can accommodate various physical connection media (such as copper, optical, or wireless) and provide guaranteed, end-to-end, optical connectivity with the highest quality of service. As a result, the StarWebTM network system technology and itsproducts will provide the Army with the following benefits in its current Warfighter Information Network: (1) transition Warfighter's communication bandwidth from narrowband to broadband; (2) support radio-silent, on-the-move, tactical network applicationwith the greatest range extension and
