Abstract:
65178 In the long-term environmental monitoring of DOE sites, it is desirable to deploy sensors in monitoring wells. However, there are currently no available ¿universal¿ sampling/analytical platforms for the deployment of these sensors in the field. This project will design and fabricate a multi-sensor sampling/analytical platform capable of housing, standardizing, and maintaining sensors in a monitoring well. The platform will be designed to perform several quality assurance/control procedures for the data generated from the sensors housed within the platform. Phase I will involve the design, fabrication, and initial testing of a multi-level sampling module capable of housing and standardizing two separate sensor technologies. Commercial Applications and Other Benefits as described by awardee: A long-term ground-water monitoring system would provide significant cost savings to the US Government over the traditional methods of monitoring wells.
