Abstract

Calspan Corporation, located in Buffalo, NY is proposing the research and development of the technology and methodolgy that can be used to accurately measure pedestrian exposure. Existing technologies/methodologies will be analyzed, and a technology/methodolgy that focuses on an individual pedestrian's walking history will be specified. Only technologies that are small, lightweight, reliable, and easy to use will be considered. Specifications for the technology and the software required to record, store, and offload the pedestrian exposure data will be derived. In addition, the feasibility of using this technology and methodolgy with various types of pedestrians, in various types of walking scenarios, will be determined, with the goal of ensuring the technology and methodology being specified will be actively used by pedestrians as part of a potential Phase II pilot study. A pedestrian exposure estimation model will be developed that will utilitze data obtained by this new technology and methodology.
