Abstract
REMOTE DETECTION OF MINUTE CONCENTRATIONS OF AROMATIC HYDROCARBONS IN GROUNDWATER USING STATE-OF-THE ART ANALYTICAL EQUIPMENT IS VERY DIFFICULT. ADDING THE CONSTRAINT OF MAKING THE MEASUREMENTS IN REAL-TIME, AND THE TASK BECOMES IMPOSSIBLE. THIS RESEARCH EXPLORES THE FEASIBILITY OF DEVELOPING A NEW TYPE OF REMOTE REAL-TIME SENSING OPTRODE. THE PROPOSED APPROACH EMPHASIZES ELECTROCHEMILUMINESCENCE, AND ENTAILS AN INNOVATIVE ADAPTATION OF THIS EXTREMELY SENSITIVE TECHNIQUE FOR DETECTING AROMATICS.
