Abstract:
Attitude estimation of 3D objects is a necessary component of many of today's most difficult problems. Currently White Sands Missile Range (WSMR) has an application in which they wish to use live imagery from multiple video sources to precisely determine the attitude or pose of missiles, aircraft, and submunitions as they pass through the field of view. This proposal describes a system that solves this problem using an existing software package developed by the research team and leveraging off of the cost-effective trends in COTS parallel processing in the commercial market-place. The Phase I effort will process imagery from WSMR in order to a) make the necessary system modifications to achieve desired performance and b) arrive at a real-time implementation design. The required speed and throughput of the proposed system are aggressive, but achievable due to the extensive experience possessed by the research team in all required technical areas.
