Automated Immersive Display Calibration System

As the fidelity and resolution of immersive visual systems have increased, problems with alignment of the displays have become more noticeable and disruptive. Additionally, many of the immersive simulators use sophisticated, high field-of-view displaysthat require the proper alignment of multiple projectors and may require projection across non-planar surfaces. Currently, technicians must manually calibrate and align these systems. This manual process is both time-consuming and costly. Furthermore, itdoes not generate repeatable results. Therefore, there is a need for a system that supports automatic alignment and calibration of these immersive visual systems. Cybernet proposes to leverage our extensive experience with machine vision, simulationvisualization, robotics, and controllers to create such a system. An automated alignment system must include a vision system for analyzing the resulting image displayed, a high fidelity robotic platform for precisely moving the camera to various locationswithin the training environment, and software for processing the collected data and controlling the platform.
