Development of assessment technologies for early childhood: Phase I.
The proposed research builds upon the work on the Children¿s Progress Academic Assessment (CPAA), a computer dynamic assessment in language arts and mathematics for children in pre-kindergarten through second grade. The goal of this project is to develop new assessment technologies that will allow for real-time error analysis of children¿s responses that will compliment the CPAA. The error analysis will target errors associated with the child¿s understanding of the content (e.g., algorithmic errors) as well idiosyncratic differences in the child¿s manner of responding (e.g., response times). The assessment will provide targeted online tutorials that are designed to address particular patterns of errors discovered through the assessment. The online activities will be designed to be used by children either at home with parents or in the classroom under the supervision of the teacher. Additionally, the project will deliver a ¿video report¿ for parents that will provide a virtual simulation of the child¿s performance on each screen of the assessment. This project will partner Children¿s Progress with professors from Columbia University and Brooklyn College.
