Abstract:
The Multiplex Data Bus Controllers, Translator, and Transmitter (MDBCTT) provides open access to aircraft 1553 multiplex bus data via open-architecture standards such as High Level Architecture (HLA) and the Test and Training Enabling Architecture (TENA), among others. The technology to inject 1553 data onto the bus for system-of-systems testing and mission rehearsal does not now exist as an open-architecture product. Central to this innovation is the ad-hoc replication of the 1553 network, and automatic pre-processing of aircraft Interface Control Documents (ICDs) for configuration. The MDBCTT Phase II effort will develop a prototype and demonstrate the capability on an AH-64D aircraft during a navigation systems test using both stimulation and emulation of aircraft systems. Bus traffic not modified during the test will pass through MDBCTT seamlessly while still exposed via HLA, TENA, and related interfaces. The MDBCTT will provides for test and in-cockpit mission rehearsal as if the aircraft is in flight, reducing the number of flight hours for testing and providing significant savings to the Army. The MDBCTT will contribute a significant leap forward in the technology of how 1553 and similar protocols are used to develop, integrate, test, and field military systems, from undersea vehicles to space vehicles.
