Lightweight Composite Motorcase and Propellant Tank Technology
Agency / Branch:
DOD / USAF
Compositex, Inc. proposes to continue the development of a promising new material and fabrication technology for high performance motor cases and propellant tanks. This process using readily-available, low-cost, domestically-produced, environmentally-friendly thermoplastic raw materials. High-cost capital equipment is not required. This technology can potentially result in revolutionary near-term improvements in performance, operational robustness, and cost effectiveness for solid rocket motors, liquid propellant tanks, and pressure vessels. The proposed Phase II work effort is intended to raise this material/fabrication technology to TRL 6, with a system prototype successfully demonstrated in a representative environment.
