Tracenet Tool (TNT): Tracing Requirements Through the Later Phases of System Development

The importance of traceability throughout the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) has become more evident and prevalent in all areas of system development throughout the DOD and commercial industry. However, current Computer Aided Software Engineering (CASE) tools lack several critical traceability capabili their effectiveness. The proposed effort will develop a methodology and corresponding tool to shortcomings. The developed approach and tool, called the TraceNet Tool (TNT), wiil improviiii technology by offering the following capabilities: l. Provide a straightforward and customizable graphical (and textual) language for capturing traceability relations present throughout the entire SDLC. 2. Associate rationale and measures of effectiveness with requirements and their relationships as aspects of traceability so that it can be determined how and why a requirement is satisfied. 3. Capture traceability information by interfacing with other existing SDLC tools, (COTS and research) from requirements elicitation to reverse engineering. 4. Provide a graphical query capability so that a user can navigate through the vast traceability information to perform critical checks and analysis. To accomplish this in a cost effective and timely manner, CCCC has assembled a team of experts who can leverage experience and available technology in the key area-traceability model development, graphical CASE tool integration. CCCC believes the TNT product has dual_use applicability and will initiate teclm plans in Phase I.
