Title:
A Novel Software/Hardware Hybrid System for Advanced Ejection Seat Control

Abstract:
An innovative combination of key contributors to ejection seat/capsule aerodynamic modeling, controller and sequencer design, and biodynamic simulation are to be integrated under the framework of a commercial software simulation tool for this Phase I project. The use of a commercial simulation package enhances the cost effectiveness of the software development, since support of graphics capabilities and computer platforms is provided by the commercial software base. The additional software modules to be developed under this effort provide an open environment for modeling and control design activities that cover the complete range of ejection seat/capsule concepts in use or considered for application by all DOD components. Hardware concepts for the implementation of controller or sequencer designs developed using this software suite are suggested, with an emphasis on the use of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) technologies to help keep costs to a minimum.
