Abstract:
A number of different special purpose assault rifle rounds are currently required to meet the operational needs of USSOCOM forces. Development of new rounds that provide both enhanced penetration and lethality is necessary to increase the overall effectiveness of USSOCOM forces, and reduce the need for special purpose ammunition. These enhancements must be obtained with sacrificing bullet accuracy. Also, environmental concerns dictate that the new round be "green". Corvid Technologies offers an innovative bullet design to meet the need for a multifunction assault rifle round. Corvid has assembled a team composed of bullet design and manufacturing experts, and materials scientists to address the many facets of this design and development challenge. Using high fidelity computational modeling and simulation, and our own expertise in ballistics, shock physics and aerodynamics, Corvid will lead this team to develop and test our innovative projectile design in Phase I. Advanced physics-based modeling and simulation enables projectile penetration, lethality, and accuracy performance to drive all aspects of the design. The result will be rapid development of an optimized round. Phase I will produce a prototype round with enhanced capabilities that will ultimately yield NATO qualified enhanced 5.56 mm and 7.62 mm rounds in Phase II.
