Advanced Millimeter Wave Sensor for Multi-Function Intelligence

The purpose of this project is to develop a prototype millimeter wave signal collection and direction finding sensor to demonstrate military utility in applications for Army light forces intelligence missions as well as special operation forcesconducting intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions. The AMMWS prototype will be developed during Phase II as a result of Phase I research, requirements development, our preliminary Phase I design concept, and experiments. This effort willfully demonstrate the system's capabilities to detect, intercept, identify, geo-locate, and provide target development information on both threat voice and digital communications and non-communication emitters in the MMW spectrum. AMMWS design includescoverage to 95 GHz, with small advanced antenna and receiver technologies to scan for threat emitters. System design approach provides for integration into MIRSS/Silent Warrior architecture with a transition path to Prophet Block IV. AMMWS enables a leapahead capability to help meet objective requirements and mission needs documented in Prophet and Joint Threat Warning System (JTWS) programs. During Year 1, we propose to complete a classified threat study; define the system requirements; conduct lab andnearfield test experiments at MMW frequencies, and complete the prototype system design.
