This Phase II proposal describes the process used by DSCI and SAIC to develop and demonstrate the “Embedded Battlefield Effects Simulation System” (EBESS) to provide Battlefield Effects for Live Embedded Training. The proposal also describes how the DSCI Team will create prototypes of the EBESS Sound Generation, Flash Generation and Smoke Generation subsystems to ensure compliance with the User’s requirements for embedded live training battlefield effects on combat vehicles to provide visual and aural indications of combat vehicle weapons being fired. The proposal also describes how the DSCI Team will provide an extensible EBESS system design to allow the EBESS to also simulate the sound signature for the crew-served weapons (e.g., coaxial M240 machine gun), as well as simulating the sound from hits from Hostile Fire (e.g., Opposing Forces). The proposal also describes how the DSCI Team will design and develop the final EBESS product, and then integrate the EBESS into a Current Force combat vehicle (e.g., M1 Abrams). The final product of this effort will be to demonstrate the EBESS functionality in a Live Training Exercise.
