Abstract

In this project Wagner Associates and JHU/APL will develop a highly automated and very “intelligent” Multi-Purpose Operator Assistant (MPOA). Our MPOA will incorporate Bayesian inference, non-Gaussian tracking and non-Gaussian resource optimization techniques that utilize a geographical Situation Awareness (SA) picture generated by the DD(X) Open Architecture Track Management (OATM) system. MPOA will provide the DD(X) IUSW operator with recommendations concerning (1) target prioritization and possible target classification; (2) which sensors and beams to examine closely and which tools to use, (3) optimal search plans, (4) alerts concerning immediate threats. The MPOA will also use sensor effectiveness information generated by environmental acoustic systems such as the Sonar Tactical Decision Aid/Scalable Tactical Acoustic Propagation Loss Engine (STDA/STAPLE) when making its recommendations.
