Abstract:
The objective of this proposal is to develop laser based countermeasure techniques necessary to combine multiple pulse repetition frequencies (PRFs) each repeated for an independent amount of time into an optimized sequence which would run in the shortest amount of time. The updated pre-detonation sequence would be used in laser based countermeasure systems whose goal is to stimulate a desired response from an emplaced improvised explosive device (IED) at such a range that would significantly reduce or eliminate the lethality of the IED attacks currently plaguing coalition forces in Iraq and Afghanistan. Upon completion of this program and thus having a technique to guide future pre-detonation sequence generation will allow for a more adaptable countermeasure system which will better protect soldiers in the field.
