Abstract:

The overall objective of the proposed research is to develop bistatic detection techniques for shallow water near land warfare operations. The focus of our proposed research is to achieve detection enhancement in environments characterized by dense multipath through application of optimal detection theory coupled with accurate acoustic modeling. The first specific objective is to consider alternative signal designs for use with conventional matched filtering. This objective will provide an upper bound on the detection performance of the conventional matched filtering in dense multipath environments. Gain in detection versus cost in computational resources will determine the validity of specific waveform designs.
