Abstract:
Discovery Machine, Inc. (DMI) proposes to create and extend technologies and methodologies for capturing knowledge from subject matter experts (SMEs). The expertise will be gathered in the form of graphical models of hierarchical task-decomposition networks (HTNs) and semantic networks (SNs). The modeling will be performed directly by the SMEs through the Discovery Machine Expertise Encoding and Execution Workshop (DM E3W), by using the Discovery Machine Methodology. The models can then be executed and leveraged by the DM E3W and other software systems to enable intelligent pattern recognition, reasoning and decision making. DMI will extend and customize these capabilities for use in the Predictive Analysis for Naval Deployment Activities (PANDA) project at DARPA. The PANDA project is in the process of creating a knowledge-based software system for automatically recognizing anomalous behavior of maritime vessels. DMI's knowledge engineering software and services will play a key role in incorporating expertise in the development of intelligent learning capabilities in the PANDA system. The technology developed by DMI will be designed to appeal to a large audience of software system developers in government and industry.
