Initertial Measurement Simulation for GPS Guidance Receivers

Dynetics, Incorporated proposes to design a hybrid hardware/software simulation of munition based inertial measurement units (IMU) to be integrated with the 6-DOF software at the PRIMES facility, Eglin AFB, FL. This IMU simulation would contain a software component capable of simulating a wide variety of IMUs, plus a hardware component to generate and send the appropriate electrical signals into a GPS receiver or navigation computer. These electrical signals would be identical to those generated by the actual IMU during the flight profile that is being simulated within the PRIMES anechoic chamber.The primary purpose of the Phase I effort is to develop the IMU simulation design such that the simulation's throughput is identical to that of the actual IMU. During Phase I, Dynetics will also produce a prototype of the IMU simulation software, to test and demonstate the capaiblity of achieving the Phase II objective of implementing the design.This simulation addresses the inherent problem that the PRIMES facility shares with other similar hardware in the loop facilities. It is not physically feasible to subject a platform carring an integrated IMU/GPS navigation system to the accelerations and angle rates necessary to have the IMU output the correct electrical signals.
