Abstract

Due to recent technological advancements there is a need for a family of flexible, optically transparent conducting films. Eclipse Energy Systems (Eclipse) has developed a proprietary visually transparent electrical conductor (88% transmission at 550 nm, <5 ohms sheet resistance). Based on the coatings attributes, the Eclipse transparent electrical conductor is highly competitive with Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) in many transparent electrical conductor product sectors.. In low rate initial production, the Eclipse transparent electrical conductor¡¦s cost is approximately half the cost of similar resistance ITO. In mass production, the Eclipse transparent electrical conductor¡¦s cost estimate is approximately a quarter of similar resistance ITO. The Eclipse transparent electrical conductor has a lower surface roughness than ITO, requiring less total film thickness for a given sheet resistance. The coating is durable and has been subjected to in-house tests for thermal cycling, thermal shock, ultraviolet, and humidity testing. Its flexible properties have also been tested, including flexing and vibration tolerance. A major benefit of a durable flexible transparent conductor will be the enabling of flexible displays to become a reality.
