Abstract

We propose to develop and evaluate an innovative training system for improving military advisors’ ability to teach and coach their host nation counterparts from a different country. Our effort will involve a comprehensive literature review, inclusion of an expert in cross-cultural training, interviews with SMEs, experts in the field, advisors, and host-national who have received US military advisor training. We'll produce a grounded theoretical model with identification of cultural, situational, and individual factors. We'll describe learning style differences in a specific Middle Eastern culture and make recommendations for overcoming language and communication difficulties.
