Abstract:
THE AVAILABILITY OF SOLID POLYMER ELECTROLYTES WITH ROOM TEMPERATURE CONDUCTIVITIES OF 2 X 10-3 OHM-1 .CM-1 MAKES IF POSSIBLE TO CONSIDER THE DEVELOPMENT OF RECHARGEABLE SOLID-STATE LI BATTERIES FOR MILITARY APPLICATIONS. THE DEVELOPMENT OF A LI/MNO2 BATTERY UTILIZING THE PAN-EC-PC-LIX SOLID ELECTROLYTE IS PROPOSED. THE PHASE I RESEARCH WILL BE DEVOTED TO ASSESSING THE CAPACITY/RATE BEHAVIOR OF THIS CELL OVER THE MILITARY SPECIFIED TEMPERATURE RANGE OF -34 TO 70C AND IDENTIFYING IMPROVED ELECTROLYTE AND ELECTRODE COMPOSITIONS THAT CAN LEAD TO A SAFE BATTERY WITH THE REQUIRED RATE CAPABILITY AND CYCLE-LIFE.
