Separable Platform Glint/Cross Polarization Target Signature Modeled RF Augmenter
Phone: (201) 808-9033
Phases 1 examines the feasibility of separable platform target augmentation. The project investigates the use of existing technology and designs to develop a broadband target augmenter having complex signature properties by using an onboard MPTA on a small target vehicle with towed photonic decoys behind the vehicle to achieve spatial diversity. The project conducts a study of glint and cross-polarization augmenters, defines Navy and tri-service test objectives, evaluates candidate target vehicle installations, and establishes separable target augmenter requirements. The effort conducts research and trade studies to examine an integrated augmenter system design that provides separable targets and realistic signature characteristics including glint, depolarization, fade, scintillation, phase reversals, and jet engine and propeller modulations. The effort examines aerodynamic drag and stability issues, decoy deployment and staging, target programmability and control, automatic programming modes, remote programming and control, and support issues. A Phase 1 option conducts a functional partition of the design, locates suppliers, and modifies requirements. Phase 2 designs, builds, programs and demonstrates a flightworthy prototype and tests the prototype under simulated engagement and flight test conditions.
