RF MEMS FOR MULTIPLE KILL VEHICLE (MKV)

The Missile Defense Agency, assigned with the extremely critical and highly complicated task of protecting the U.S. against ballistic, has an urgent need for innovative and extremely compact communication systems for the Multiple Kill Vehicles (MKV) program. In this Phase II SBIR project, EMAG Technologies Inc. proposes to develop a K-band (21.4-22GHz), low cost, reconfigurable RF communication system for connectivity between the carrier and kill vehicles for a MKV system. The proposed reconfigurable RF front end architecture utilizes multiple silicon wafers that host the RF interconnects, MEMS varactors, and passive and active components and are attached by our recently developed thermo-compression bonding methods. The silicon wafers will provide the packaging for the vertically integrated RF interconnects as well as the MEMS varactors. EMAG Technologies Inc. has teamed up with Rockwell Collins Corporation to demonstrate the feasibility and viability of the proposed compact, integrated RF front end.
