Abstract:

SEVERAL PERFLUORODICARBOXYLIC ACIDS WILL BE PRODUCED BY DIRECT FLUORINATION AND REDUCED TO THE CORRESPONDING DIFUNCTIONAL FLUOROALCOHOLS. WITH DIRECT FLUORINATION ONE CAN PRODUCE FLUOROALCOHOLS WHICH CONTAIN LONG CHAIN OR BRANCHED FLUOROCARBON SECTIONS EASIER THAN BY CONVENTIONAL METHODS. IN ADDITION SOME SMALL CHAIN PERFLUOROPOLYETHER DIACIDS WILL BE MADE AND CONVERTED TO THE FLUOROALCOHOLS. THE ABILITY TO VARY THE LENGTH AND COMPOSITION OF THE FLUORINATED PORTION OF THE DIOL SHOULD ALLOW SOME TAILORING OF POLYMER PROPERTIES WHEN THESE DIOLS ARE USED AS COMPONENTS OF POLYMERS.
