The goal of this Phase II SBIR is to fully implement a computerized cognitive assessment system that will assess skills critical to military and civil tasks. In Phase I, current cognitive models were integrated and evaluated to develop a comprehensivelist of cognitive functions that would need to be tested in such an assessment system. In addition, existing performance tests and batteries were surveyed and evaluated to define the state-of-the-art in cognitive testing. Innovative techniques forrelating cognitive functions to tests were also explored and evaluated. From these exercises, preliminary recommendations were developed concerning which tests should be included in a comprehensive assessment system. In Phase II, we propose to carry theabove preliminary investigations to a final level, and to physically implement the recommended assessment system in hardware and software. This product would be delivered to the Government, and adapted for civilian commercial use. In addition, we proposean optional effort that will begin the process of scientific criterion validation of this approach and assessment system in stressor conditions (e.g., chemical agents, fatigue, heat, etc.) of operational military significance.
