HfB2-filled Braided C/SiC Nozzles for High Performance DACS
Agency / Branch:
DOD / MDA
Contract:
N00178-04-C-3047
Award Amount:
$749,790.00
Abstract:
The primary goal of the proposed Phase II effort will be to demonstrate materials and processes necessary to reliably produce a viable high temperature DACS thruster via the enhancement of the baseline C/SiC composite with hafnium diboride matrix doping. The viability of the resulting prototype CMC thrusters will be evaluated through complete thermomechanical evaluation of optimized materials and ground test firings of a set of test pieces. Cost / benefit analysis for the will be run to determine the economic advantage to be gained by replacement of metallic components in current DACS systems.
