Title: Laser Designator for Mk 46 Optical Sight System

Abstract:
This program will develop an advanced Laser Target Designator / Rangefinder (LTD/R) for incorporation into the Mk46 Optical Sight System. The new LTD/R will enable designation and eye-safe rangefinding against air and sea-based targets with ranges out to the horizon. Applications include Anti-Surface Warfare and Ship Defense Missions. The proposed LTD/R will exploit Phase I innovations in diode-pumped laser and resonator design and exploit emerging technology for Q-switching and non-linear frequency conversion. The proposed LTD/R will offer improved efficiency and beam quality over state-of-the-art devices. In addition to the naval application, the new LTD/R will find application on air and ground platforms including remotely piloted vehicles. Commercial applications include laser transmitters for ground, air or space-based remote sensing systems.
