Extremely Wideband Antenna for Airborne and Land Mobile Communications Systems

The goal of this Phase II effort is to provide a continuous bandwidth from 225-1850 MHz from a single antenna aperture that is mechanically suitable for use on a high-speed airborne platform. During this Phase II effort FIRST RF will examine a single aperture approach as well as a multi-aperture approach. Both approaches will be packaged in a blade style radome that can be mounted on a high-speed airborne platform. In the multi-aperture approach FIRST RF will also explore the extension of the frequency band into the VHF band (30-174 MHz). This will be done primarily through material loading trades. These material loading trades will be used to examine the miniaturization of the antenna thereby reducing the profile of the antenna and making it even more suitable for installation on a high-speed airborne platform.
