Abstract:

Successful completion of marketing and logistics research will provide post and pole plants in rural communities, forestland managers, and distribution businesses with critical understanding of the urban retail and wholesale marketplace and how best to position roundwood as a building, woodcraft and landscape material. The effects will be to: a) stimulate demand for small diameter logs from forestlands thus provided important income to offset thinning costs, b) stimulate expansion by post and pole producers thus adding jobs in rural communities and sustainability to their businesses, and c) better connect urban residents and homeowners with restoration of healthy forests. The purpose of this project is to increase the utilization of smallwood and economic viability of rural communities.
