Abstract:
A parachute system with variable glide capability will improve the accuracy and maneuverability achievable for aerial delivery through in-flight configuration changes that can effectively alter the L/D. Such a capability will optimize control in variable environments (e.g. wind) and maximize flexibility in release locations and payload weight ranges. A program is proposed to develop and study potential concepts. Prototype parachutes capable of delivering payloads in the 50lb to 500lb range will be fabricated and tested.
