THE PROPOSAL RESPONDS TO THE INCREASING PRESSURE TO RECYCLE PAPER. SINCE NONBLEACHED PAPER USES ALMOST 100% RECYCLE PULP, ADDITIONAL RECYCLING MUST COME FROM BLEACHING RECYCLEDPULP TO BE SUITABLE FOR NEWSPRINT AND WHITE PAPER. THE OBJECTIVE OF THE EXPERIMENTS IS TO DEMONSTRATE THE FEASIBILITY OF BLEACHING RECYCLED PULP WITH A UNIQUE CHEMICAL MIXTURE. THE EXPERIMENTS WILL USE SAMPLES OF COMMERCIAL DE-INKED PULP AND A BENCH SCALE REACTOR TO COLLECT DATA ON THE INCREASE IN BRIGHTNESS WITH TIME AND CHEMICAL CONCENTRATION. PROCESS CALCULATIONS PREDICT ECONOMIC ADVANTAGES OF THIS PROCESS COMPARED TO CONVENTIONALTECHNOLOGY. THE PROCESS SHOULD BE APPLICABLE TO EXISTING DE-INKING PLANTS AS AN ADDED PROCESS STEP AND APPLICABLE TO NEW PLANT CONSTRUCTION INTEGRATED WITH THE PLANT DESIGN. CURRENT BLEACHING CHEMICAL COST FOR RECYCLED PULP IS AROUND $20 PER TON. THE FORECAST CHEMICAL COST FOR THIS TECHNOLOGYIS $2 PER TON. THIS REPRESENTS ANNUAL SAVINGS OF OVER $60 MILLION ON TODAY'S BLEACHED RECYCLED PULP. SINCE PAPER RECYCLING IS FORECAST TO GROW SIGNIFICANTLY, THE SAVINGS WILL BE MUCH GREATER.
