Abstract:
This proposal is to conduct a Phase I study of the design of a high volumetric energy density generator for the Navy that can be used in weapons systems requiring long storage times. The volumetric energy density goal is 1000 W-hr/l or 5 times greater than the present power supply. The proposed design of this power supply is unique in that it suggests the use of a "thermite type" heat source that will provide heat input to an advanced quantum well thermoelectric module where the heat will be converted directly to electricity to provide power to the buoy.
