Abstract:

The accurate measurement of fluid densities flowing in pipes is important for custodial monitoring of valuable and/or controlled substances. Most on-line fluid flow meters require independent determination of the fluid density while Coriolis type meters, which directly measure the fluid mass, are off-lie devices. HY-Tech is proposing to develop a laser based diagnostic techique for measuring the fluid density on-line with an accuracy approaching 10 ppm. The technique is applicable to measuring the absolute density of single component gases independent of pressure or temperature and the concentration of liquid solutions. The technique will find widespread application in manufacturing processes where the monitor and control of fluid mixture concentrations is critical.
