Title:
Three Dimensional Coordinate Measurement System - For Driver Hand Position Monitoring
Agency:
DOT
Contract:

Award Amount:
$75,000.00
Abstract:
While the applications of a three dimensional coordinate measurement system are diverse, such a system will be particularly useful in reporting driver hand position and head movement coordinates. The coordinate information is used to evaluate driver behavior and performance in the new generation of instrumented vehicles where the driver engages in manipulation of specific equipment. Having developed industrial applications for the transportation market using a variety of sensor technologies, IEM will evaluate four technologies: ultrasonics, stereophotography, magnetic field measurements, and radio direction finding. IEM will test these four technologies in the automotive environment. Based on the outcome of the testing, a unique prototype of the feasible technology will be produced incorporating innovative features appropriate for the feasible technology.
