Abstract
THIS PROPOSAL IS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF FLEXIBLE SILVER HALIDE OPTICAL FIBERS TO TRANSMIT INFRARED RADIATION OF 10.6 MICRONS FROM A CO(2) LASER WITHOUT APPRECIABLE LOSS OF POWER. PHASE I OF THE PROPOSAL IS FOR THE INVESTIGATION OF A NUMBER OF NOVEL PROCEDURES FOR THE PURIFICATION OF THE SILVER HALIDES AND FOR THE FABRICATION OF OPTICAL FIBERS FROM THIS MATERIAL.
