Abstract:
We propose to develop a low weight small volume ultrasonic imaging system Rthat will allow an inspector to quickly detect the amount of corrosion present in Tan aircraft structural component. The initial objective of the Phase I activity is Gthe application and laboratory demonstration and evaluation of a newly Ndeveloped system. A need exists for detailed visualization by an operator of Psurface layers and the underlying structural materials. The ability to rapidly Ndetect and measure corrosion in the materials under evaluation provides a new Ocapability that requires further evaluation. Samples subjected to accelerated Qcorrosion conditions will be measures at time intervals consistent with the rate Jof corrosion growth. Automated systems will be employed to assist in the Lcorrosion and analysis of the results. Automated change detection taken on Smultiple layers after differing periods of induced corrosion will be demonstrated. S Protocols for the collection, correlation, and automatic detection of the various Aforms of imagery will be developed in the reports to be provided.
